Overview
Opana ER (extended-release) is a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic drug. It contains Oxymorphone Hydrochloride as an active ingredient, which is also a generic variant of the branded medication Opana ER 7.5 mg. Oxymorphone is an opioid agonist, which is a Schedule II controlled substance drug that indicates that it has a high potential for drug addiction, abuse, and misuse. The formulation of Oxymorphone is similar to Morphine.
Opana pill works effectively with its therapeutic action in the brain. The exact mechanism is still unknown of this drug. However, it is believed that the Opana ER oral drug acts by binding the selective mu-receptor. This medication mainly affects the brain and spinal cord to get relief from the pain. The starting dose of Opana medicine for patients who can not tolerate the effect of opioids is Oxymorphone 5 mg orally which can be taken every 12 hours.
