How Much Ibuprofen Can I Take?

Ibuprofen is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which is used to treat fever, inflammation, mild to moderate pain, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines and dysmenorrhea. It is FDA approved medicine that was patented in 1961. It is most widely taken oral medicine in the world & taken by teenagers and adults as 200-400 mg per dose in every 4-6 hours.

Drug Mechanism

The primary mechanism of ibuprofen is the non-selective and reversible suppress of the cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX), which is preferred for the synthesis of prostaglandins through the archidonic acid pathway. COX is required to convert arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2(PGH2) in the body and then PGH2 converted in prostaglandin. The Inhibition of COX via ibuprofen lowers the level of prostaglandins which is made by the body.

There are two forms of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes in the body COX-1 and COX-2. COX-1 inhibit blocks the formation of thromboxane and COX-2 reduce pain and inflammation effects.
