Overview
ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which is quite commonly seen in childhood and remains till adulthood. It is a disorder that affects the individual neurologically and it is a neuro-developmental or neuro-behavioral disorder.
The patient with ADHD has difficulty in focusing tasks (inattention), uncontrollable behavior or less self-control (impulsivity) and restlessness or more talkative (hyperactivity). These are symptoms which are experienced by a patient with this medical condition.
This disorder is treated with help of the medication named Strattera drug. It is a brown-colored capsule in which there is an imprint of the strength of the medicine Strattera 100 mg with LILLY 3251 100 mg.
Atomoxetine Hydrochloride is a generic variant and also used as an active ingredient in the branded drug, Strattera. This drug is FDA-approved and falls under the drug family known as norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is not categorized as a controlled substance because it has less potential for abuse and misuse.
Dose & Strength of Dosage of Strattera:
Strattera has various dosage strengths, these are mentioned below:-
- 10 mg

It comes in the form of an oral capsule. The doses and its strength can be increased by a doctor. Generally, the Strattera capsule is taken with a meal or on an empty stomach. It can be consumed in two ways, either once in a day in the morning time or dose may be divided into the morning and early in the evening.
Dose For Children
Its dose depends on the weight and age of the kid. For instance, the suggested dose is 0.5 mg per kg in a day. This dosage strength is for those children who are above the age of 6 years and have a weight below 70 kg. A dose of 1.4 mg per kg (100 mg) is the maximum limit for the children.
Dose For Adolescents
A dose of 40 mg is advised in patients who have more than 70 kg of weight. After 3 days, the dosage strength can be increased to get an effective result of the medicine. The dose can be increased up to 100 mg.
Mechanism of Action Strattera 100 mg:
Strattera consists of Atomoxetine which is a non-stimulant and a potent noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor. It is also called an NET inhibitor. There is an important chemical in the brain which is associated with alertness that is known as norepinephrine.
The drug raises the concentration of neurotransmitters by halting the reabsorption (reuptake) of norepinephrine in the brain. As, norepinephrine helps to improve focus and attention and enhance memory. This is how medicine helps to improve the condition which is related to ADHD.

It is a condition in which the nervous system (autonomic) is not able to control the body’s function. As a result, sweating, low blood pressure and changes in heart rate.

- If a person is taking MAO inhibitor (antidepressant drug) then Strattera medicine can be taken only after 14 days of discontinuation of MAO.
- One should not take this medication without consulting a healthcare expert to avoid fatal health problems.
