Overview of  Reductil Drug

Reductil is a medication drug that is used by medical healthcare professionals for treating excessive weight in a patient. The generic name for this drug is sibutramine. It is a centrally acting stimulant chemically related to amphetamines and is therefore classified as a Schedule IV controlled substance in the United States. Note – In October 2010, this medication was discontinued from Canadian and US markets. Researchers stated that the drug increases the risk of heart attack and stroke in individuals with a history of heart disease.

Uses:

This weight loss medication drug affects chemicals in the brain that affect weight maintenance. The drug is used together with exercise and diet to treat obesity which may be related to high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or diabetes.

Basically, Reductil acts as an appetite suppressant for the purpose of weight loss in the treatment of patients suffering from obesity.

Doses:

The dosage can be taken with or without food and usually starts with one 10mg tablet per day. The dose may be increased to 15mg by the healthcare professional after several weeks to achieve the desired effect. Doses of up to 60mg have been studied and researched well.

Doses above 15 mg taken daily are not recommended for this medication. For individuals who are not able to tolerate the 10 mg dose well, either discontinuation of the drug or a dose of 5 mg orally once a day.

Stop the use of the drug and call a licensed medical healthcare provider if one experiences any serious side effects such as:

• Uneven heartbeats
• Worsening shortness of breath
• Agitation
• Hallucinations
• Fever
• Tremor
• Overactive reflexes
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Loss of coordination
• Dilated pupils
• Rigid muscles
• High fever
• Sweating
• Confusion
• Feeling like you might pass out
• Easy bruising or bleeding
• Dangerously high blood pressure
• Chest pain
• Sudden numbness or weakness
• Problems with vision, speech, or balance

Precautions:

• Do not use Reductil if you have taken a Monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAO), such as furazolidone, etc., in the last 14 days.
• If a person takes Reductil before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from the bodySerious, life-threatening side effects might occur.
• Don’t take this medication drug if the patient suffers from conditions like Hypertension, Eating disorder, Heart disease, Coronary artery disease, Kidney disease, Depression, Liver disease, Bleeding or clotting disorder
