Mechanism of Action of Rozerem Medication:

Rozerem consists of Ramelteon which is referred to as a melatonin receptor agonist. It has no affinity for the GABA receptor complex or receptors that binds with serotonin, noradrenaline, dopamine, cytokines etc. Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland, which maintains the circadian rhythms of sleep.

G protein-coupled receptors (Melatonin receptors) adhere to melatonin that is produced inside the body (endogenous). This drug has a stronger affinity to bind with MT1 and MT2 melatonin receptors than the MT3 receptor in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN).

These two receptors have sleep-enhancing properties. This may increase sleep by maintaining the sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm). It speeds up the time that is required to fall asleep after turning off the lights (sleep onset). This is how Rozerem helps to treat insomnia.

Dose & Strength of Dose of Rozerem Medicine:

Rozerem drug is available in the form of an oral tablet with a dosage strength of 8 mg. It is pale orange-yellow colored, round shaped, and imprinted with TAK and RAM-8 on one side of the tablet. In Adults

The 8 mg is an advised dose, which should be taken half an hour before getting into bed. One should not consume drugs instantly with or after having food that contains high calories. The maximum dose is 8 mg, and not beyond that dosage.

In Patients with liver failure (hepatic impairment)
