The generic variant of medicine was approved in 1959 and sold under the trade name of Soma.

The medicine blocks the neurotransmission through the neuromuscular junction at nicotinic receptors, thus, it decreases the skeletal muscle tone. The half life of Soma is 2 to 3 hours, however, it stays active in the body for 11 hours.
